OCAT International Art Residency [cn Shenzhen]

OCAT Contemporary Art Terminal, Enping Road, Shenzhen, China :: Call for Residency Applications – Deadline: April 2009.

OCAT International Art Residency is one the important programs of OCT Contemporary Art Terminal (OCAT). In each year, OCAT invites five young and experimental artists, critics and curators from the visual arts area for residency in OCAT’s studios, and provides certain allowance, equipment and PR service to support their art practice and research during their residency. The program aims to create a dynamic platform for multi-disciplinary exchange, synthesize international cultural sources and contribute to the construction and development of Chinese contemporary art system, further to make OCAT an international standard contemporary art organization. “Immersive Event Time” by Jeremy Hight

“Introduction: Time is plastic. Our linear measure is man made for convenience. The oversimplification of minutes, hours, days is functional in a base utilitarian sense, yes, but fails to account for point of entry, context, point of view, the density of what is occurring in time and how it is thus experienced. Time is geometric; it also has the experiential component and this has height, width, variation and forms from point of view and processes differently with each individual. An event in time thus is not only to be measured in its variable detail, but also of its place in time. This is not a time-line. Continue reading

Live Stage: Althea Thauberger [ca Vancouver]

Artspeak presents Carrall Street – Althea Thauberger :: September 30, 2008; 8:00 – 11:00 pm :: the 200 block of Carrall Street, Vancouver (in front of Artspeak Gallery) :: curated by Melanie O’Brian.

Althea Thauberger’s one-night performance will present the street (brightly lit like a film set at nighttime) as a stage, or zone of illumination where the roles of participant and spectator blur. The interweaving of organized performers, random passers-by and audience members will allow for unforeseen interactions to take place, resulting in a destabilized form of community theatre that reveals the street’s history, its current successes and stresses, as well as its future.
