White Square
Interactive shadows
When a person steps in the White Square of light, shadows appear circling around him/her. These interactive shadows projected around the feet make contact with other shadows in the square. People can play together with collaborative visual structures created by shadows reaching and grabbing onto each other. The shadow world creates a reflecting surface of positions and movements done by people in the square.
The human shadow is transformed into an interactive medium. The installation, created by Helsinki-based artist Hanna Haaslahti, illuminates the network of connections between people sharing the same limited space. White Square tries to break the control and command-relationship people have with technology into a more intuitive and physical one. This kind of public playground aims to stimulate a new awareness of ourselves as a physical being. White Square can also be seen as a media architectural space, which enchants people to move and express themselves, subtly using their body as a tool of interaction. (Posted by R?gine Debatty)
