This workshop focuses on the theory of field recording, audio recording of environmental sound.

The World as Instrument that López has organized worldwide introduces the participants to the art of field recording through huge sonic samples and discussion. At the end of the workshop, the participants will experience the depth of the art at his blind live performance. Join artist Andrew Demirjian for a workshop where participants will design their own distinctive tones for sonifying the stock price fluctuations of the three largest music companies. Participants will audition and perform each other’s work working from Andrew’s audiovisual installation, The Week in Review, presented in Eyebeam’s Project Space (June 21-July 9). The control interface for Week in Review is a custom built LED clock interface and turntable, which enables a user to play through a week of stock price data. This is a workshop for Max/MSP and/or Ableton Live users.

This workshop is presented as related programming for Andrew Demirjian’s Eyebeam Project Space exhibition, The Week in Review.

Each participant should bring a portable field recorder with external or built-in microphones and a pair of headphones. There are numerous hard-disc recorders on the market by manufacturers such as Zoom (H4n), Tascam, Sony and Olympus. Older technologies such as a Sony Walkman Pro (cassette) or minidisc are also acceptable.

Registration is now open for the workshop in Acoustic Ecology curated by the Italian Soundscape Archive, AIPS (Archivio Italiano Paesaggi Sonori) and coordinated by musicians/sound designers Francesco Giannico and Alessio Ballerini.
