This call is open to visual artists, creative writers and musicians between the ages of 25 and 35.

The Programme aims to promote the mobility of young artists through art residences abroad, give priority to artists and artist residency institutions from the global south and promoting the participation of women in international artist residencies.

The website provides links to the residency institutions with full instructions on application procedures. Candidates are invited to submit their applications directly to the institution of their choice. The institutions pre-select three candidates for each bursary and submit the list of names to UNESCO for review by an international selection panel, which makes the final selection taking into consideration the priorities of the residency, geographical distribution and gender equality.

By supporting the mobility of artists and promoting artist residencies, the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme contributes to:

- Individual artistic development: opportunities for artists to realise their creative works and have access to other markets;
- Local development: transfer of knowledge back in local communities;
- International cooperation: Promote collaboration and cooperation between artists and artists’ residencies.

The Hungarian Multicultural Center, Inc.® (HMC), 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, invites interested visual artists, writers, performers to submit application for its residency program in Budapest, Hungary. The residencies offer participants to interact with other artists representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Accepted applicants are expected to speak and understand English.

About the HMC ::
HMC is dedicated to promoting international art and the understanding of world cultures, through high quality art exhibitions, cultural exchanges and related educational programs. Based in Dallas and Budapest, the organization operates throughout the world. Its principal focus is an international residency program to which artists from around the world are invited. The goal is to provide a supportive community with uninterrupted time to work. Like many visual arts residency programs, the HMC is a microcosm of the cultural diversity: multi-national. Unlike others, however, HMC makes a concerted effort to connect its artists and curators to the art community, while connecting the local art community with contemporary art practice from all over the world. The dynamic of HMC is a programming hybrid conceived to facilitate genuine exchange, specifically its Artist Talks and exhibitions. The exhibitions attract not only professionals, but a wider audience of art enthusiasts. As a direct consequence of connections forged at HMC, many of the over 500+artists who have participated in the program since its founding, are now represented by galleries and have been included in numerous group exhibitions and projects throughout the United States and Hungary.

Who Should Apply
HMC welcomes artists at all stages of their careers and seeks to create a mix of various experience levels in each group of residents. Through a competitive application process, HMC offers residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, and interdisciplinary artists such as those working in sound, performance, choreography, etc. AIR is an international meeting point for the arts. Its aim is to support and encourage contemporary artistic creation, research and debate. The purpose of this program is to offer a platform to promote the exchange of artistic discourses from artists with different artistic backgrounds and from different geographical origins. The program is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas in order to broaden creative horizons. HMC considers art as a dynamic social force that is capable of inspiring individuality and of defining groups. Art — one of the few languages that transcends all boundaries — offers a way to understand not only ourselves and one another, but it offers a venue for greatness, which must be supported if we as a civilization are to move forward.

The Department for the Coordination of Scientific and Musical Research seeks to reinforce the interaction between the scientific and musical community by appealing to the computer music community at large. This program offers scholarships to artists and young professionals wishing to take advantage of a period of residency at IRCAM in order to pursue their music research projects in a stimulating collaborative environment. Deadline: September 30, 2010.

Each year - via online submission - a limited number of candidates is selected by a panel of international experts based on the following criteria: project content; scientific and artistic motivation; quality and innovative character of the project; mastery of the technologies needed for the project; demonstrated ability to manage a collaborative research project.

Each selected candidate will benefit from a residency at IRCAM for a specific period, associated with one or more of the institute’s project teams. The candidate will receive a scholarship of 1200 euros. IRCAM does not cover travel and lodging expenses.

During the research residency, candidates will work in the context of the Research and Development department in order to pursue their work. They will collaborate with members of one or more teams thus enabling them to deepen the musical and technological issues explored through experimentation as well as participate in the intellectual life of the institute.

At the end of their stay, the selected candidates will be asked to document and share the results of their work via written publications and public presentations given to the IRCAM community as well as the international computer music community at large.

The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA (the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) is dedicated entirely to adventurous contemporary music. We will write it. We will perform it. We will think about it and we will talk about it. We will spend three weeks immersed in recent music that has changed the world. Available studies include Balinese music workshops, improvisation, as well as performance coaching, master classes, music business seminars and more. Composers will have their works performed. Players will perform publicly in ensembles sitting alongside their teachers. There are daily performances in the museum galleries, free with museum admission. And the residency concludes with a six-hour blow-out Marathon Concert featuring performances by the student/faculty ensembles.

The 2010 Performance Schedule here.

The faculty includes some of the most innovative musicians of our time. These are musicians who have dedicated their lives to commissioning, rehearsing, recording and performing music beyond the cutting edge.

The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival will take place July 12 through August 1, 2010 at MASS MoCA, located in North Adams, Massachusetts. MASS MoCA presents exhibitions and performances by renowned artists and cultural institutions, but it also is a place where the process of creativity is explored; rehearsals, art fabrication shops, and production studios are open to public view. Bang on a Can has found a home at MASS MoCA for the Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival and is thrilled to work with them in building a bridge between the arts.

The Bang on a Can Summer Music Festival at MASS MoCA is made possible in part with public funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and from generous support from the ASCAP Foundation Irving Caesar Fund, CECArtslink, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Cheswatyr Foundation, and the NIB Foundation.

Special thanks to Drury High School, Conte Middle School, Williams College, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and the Robert Black Bass Scholarship.

image: from David Levine’s Habit, Watermill Residency Spring 2010, Marsha Ginsberg, photographer

The Watermill Center is accepting proposals from emerging artists from all over the world as part of its Fall and Spring Residency Program. Applicants will be considered for residencies during Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. Watermill embraces ambitious proposals from all art disciplines that push the boundaries of existing international artistic practice. Watermill encourages the exploration of those innovative ideas throughout The Watermill Center facility and its six acres of grounds on the East End of Long Island, New York. This unique facility, founded by Robert Wilson, houses studios that double as galleries, The Watermill Collection of fine art and artifacts from Stone Age to contemporary day, a resource library, and communal living areas.

Applications are reviewed by an international Selection Committee that includes arts leaders Michael Morris, Nike Wagner, Alanna Heiss, and Marina Abramovic, as well as those from the social sciences, such as Ida Nicolaisen and Richard Sennett. Watermill encourages proposals from artists based within and outside the U.S., and offers a strong international and U.S. based network of associates as a continued benefit of the residency. Artists who have participated in this program have gone on to perform at various venues throughout the world including Door Studios in Paris and The Danou Festival in Austria, as well as New York City venues including Performa, LaMama, The New York International Fringe Festival, New Island Festival - Governors Island, Park Avenue Armory, and Dance New Amsterdam.

Complete guidelines are available at http://watermillcenter.org/programs/residencies/guidelines

About the Residency Program

Residencies can range from one to four weeks and are scheduled throughout the Fall (September-December) and Spring (February-June). As the Center seamlessly combines performance and rehearsal sites with working and communal living spaces, the areas for studio practice are flexible and can be adapted for the residency needs. In addition to the facility, the Center is situated on six-acres of landscaped grounds with outdoor performance areas.

All residencies conduct an ‘Open Rehearsal’ or public presentation to share the working process. The Center can also arrange educational components or collaborative partnerships with the community. Concurrent with the residencies, Watermill Center staff conduct tours of the facilities, grounds and collection, open library hours, as well as educational and outreach programs.

The Watermill Center is thrilled to announce residency partnerships with The New York Theatre Workshop, Métamatic Research Initiative, and The Summer Play Festival. Each partnership offers a different collaboration. These partnerships are in addition to Watermill’s existing Residency Program.
