It is impossible to imagine art nowadays without the kind of interdisciplinary and multi-media approaches that began to play a key role in the 1960s. Since then, sculpture, sound, film, theatre, performance and many other branches have embarked on a broad spectrum of different kinds of fusion with pictorial forms. Recently, such “inter-mediality” has been given an additional boost thanks to new notions of creativity. It might be argued, albeit somewhat over-stating the point, that media-specific working methods have been replaced by more overarching types of production that short-circuit fairly disparate realms with each other. “Inter-creativity”, a paradigm of working methods located in the zone between individual disciplines, has begun to take the place of traditional models of creativity. “Intermedia 2.0″, produced in cooperation with Vienna’s “departure” initiative, examines the potentials and promises to be found in these broader concepts of media and creativity. Studies in Movement is a series of intermedia études based in part on the unique visual legacy of the great French physiologist Étienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904). From his pioneering work with graphical recording devices to his work with stop-action photography, Marey sought to break down locomotion in order to learn how humans and animals moved in the natural world. MiSS Four - An improvisatory challenge from the Sonic Arts Research Centre :: February 21, 2009; 1:00 - 3:00 pm (free): Sonic Arts Research Centre, Belfast.

This event forms part of 24 Fragments - 24 hours of music, neuroscience and performance at 24 sites across the UK. SARC will be linked with all 24 UK sites, but will have a direct artistic exchange with Bristol’s watershed where poetry and voice works by Bristol based performers, led by Hewlett Packard South West fellow Ralph Hoyte will be presented.

Sound artist Paul Stapleton, violinist Gascia Ouzounian and improvisers Pedro Rebelo and Franziska Schroeder will be teaming up for a feast of sonic explorations during the 24 Fragments event, a 24-hour festival funded by The Wellcome Trust. The concert will take place in the unique Sonic Laboratory, a purpose-built, variable acoustic space, known for its experiments in sound diffusion and ground-breaking compositional and performance work. André Gonçalves (Portugal) works across the fields of visual arts, music, video, installation and performance. Originally trained in Graphic Design alongside his commercial work he has been developing several applications in Max-MSP, flash, java and C++ along with various experimentations in the analog world. Since 2002, he has been refining his ‘do it yourself’ approach to electronics, experimenting with sensor interfaces, old and new hardware and various techniques to create intermedia pieces. ALESSANDRO BOSETTI is a composer and sound artist. He works on the musicality of spoken words and unusual aspects of spoken communication and produced text-sound compositions featured in live performances, radio broadcasts and published recordings. Anthology presents an evening in celebration of intermedia composer, artist and pillar of the downtown arts community Phill Niblock, on the night before he turns 75. Best known for his work on, around and about the violin, Jon Rose is a global performer, presenting his group and solo projects regularly in over 30 countries. He brings over 25 years experience pioneering the use of digital technology in live music performance to the Ball Project and this Festival outcome Sphere of Influence. The ball as symbol is universally recognised. A ball flying through space has an inherent mystery; it replicates our lonely and insecure position in the universe. To sport fans, the ball verges on being a sacred object. Ball games, especially in this sport-obsessed city, are nearly a religious rite.
