Sam Auinger lives and works in Berlin. He is known for both his own work and his 20 year transatlantic collaboration with Bruce Odland. Together they founded “O+A” making installations that change the way we hear, re-connecting us to our environment. They are composers and philosophers of modern life who think with their ears and have developed a Hearing Perspective on our visually insane culture.
Projects include “Requiem for Fossil Fuels”, a major performance piece for an orchestra of cities and 4 virtuoso singers first performed at Judson Church, New York in 2007.
Sam Auinger is a founding member of “stadtmusik” a collaboration between the Berlin based composers Sam Auinger and Hannes Strobl with the media artist Dietmar Offenhuber. stadtmusik deals with sound in cities, by analysing sound structures which are triggered by urban buildings and facilities. He was recently appointed as “City Sound Artist Bonn 2010”, an award given for the first time. See: www.bonnhoeren.de
Beside his artistic work Sam Auinger is a guest professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin, running the department Experimental Sounddesign at Master’s Program Sound Studies – Acoustic Communication.
