Paul Higham’s Hidan — an iPhone composition culled together from 12 music apps and edited in Final Cut Pro — really begs the question as to just how much tapping one small touchscreen can really take. After all, we have to imagine a cracked screen is a bit more traumatic than a snapped string or a broken drumstick. The track itself if is — well I don’t really know what they call this kind of music anymore — but it starts off with some ambient, minimalist keyboard riffs and builds into something that sounds like a combination of Aphex Twin and Street Fighter II.
