Picturing the Invisible Body

"There has been a trend in questioning whether science and art should be identified as two separate cultures. Arguments can easily be found in favour or against such statement. It is probably more productive to recognise that the important issue concerns the connections that can be, and have been, established between art and science. Since modernity, it is difficult to consider visual arts without realising direct and indirect links to science. The prominence of biology and biotechnology in the science of today has an equivalent high repercussion in visual arts practise. The appropriation of biology as an art medium can be seen as a natural development: appropriation of scientific imagery would not be sufficient, as in the art of today the process is as important as the outcome."
