What the add-on does is insert a fragment of a story (what we call a tumbarumba) into a webpage. The result is a nonsensical sentence. Look at the next paragraph and see if you can spot the tumbarumba. If you're having trouble click here for a hint.

Tumbarumba is an anthology of short stories. Would-be readers need to uncover the stories before they're able to read them. This is done by web browsing and keeping an eye out for a textual absurdity. If the absurdity is one that was caused by Tumbarumba (and not simply run-of-the-mill convoluted writing) then it offers a entry to one of the stories in the anthology. Tumbarumba is intended to give the reader to not only have the pleasure of finding and reading the stories in the Gridnovskian mode.

Notice that when you move the mouse over the inserted sentence fragment that the cursor changes to a hand cursor. Clicking on the tumbarumba causes more of the story to appear. Repeated clicking will cause the entire page to change to the story. Give it a try!

Tumbarumba is a 2008 commission of New Radio and Performing Arts, Inc., (aka Ether-Ore) for its Turbulence web site. It was made possible with funding from the Jerome Foundation.
