Sean Rooney (Peakaboo Hudson)

Lovingly Crafted, Finely Rendered, Loudly Wrought. ... post-industrial noise, post-crash laptopia. ... systems + samples, pedals + patches.

Sean Rooney is a digital noise musician, computer programmer, sound designer and teacher based in the Bay Area who sometimes performs under the name Peakaboo Hudson, although he hasn’t yet come forward with a compelling reason for the dual-personality shtick. His work often involves unexpected uses of technology. His first performances as a toddler involved harmonizing with the family vacuum cleaner, leading his mom to suspect autism. She still brings it up from time to time. His musical persona used to involve much more guitar with kitchen utensils and walkie-talkies, but he’s moved out of this phase. He’s considering revisiting it, though, so by all means stay tuned. He’s generally a nice guy, but sometimes finds his social skills dipping into a zone of inadequacy; he apologizes in advance.

Notorious noisemaker Mark Trayle has called his work "cool" or something to that effect (he’d give you the exact quote but he can’t find it right now). Trayle's fellow former Hub member John Bischoff called his performance "some of the best electronic music I've heard in a long time". He's performed with a wide array of musicians including Mark Trayle, K. Atchley, George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith, Pamela Z, Wobbly and Boris Hauf, and currently teaches Sound Design at Academy of Art College in San Francisco

He’s working on a bunch of projects with a bunch of people. Some of them include: Crispus, the all-electronic improvisation collective he co-founded (with his good buddy and fellow pun lover J Why), which will be releasing a CD this fall on HeadFullaBrains, Pseudoflora, an experimental puppet-theater piece by noted puppeteer Susan Simpson which will be performed in November at The Museum of Jurassic Technology in Los Angeles, and p2p, a cross-country noise collaboration with musician and designer Yoshi Sodeoka to be released on Shift Factory records as well as on a compilation called Rojo .audio.
